I’m a recently retired engineer who’s had a great ride at three companies: Xerox in the ‘70s, Apple in the early ‘80s, and Sun from then on. Wow .. couldn’t have written a better flight path! Horrid details in my bio.

My last 2.5 years at Sun had me carting Applied Complexity technologies from the Santa Fe Institute back to Sun. Things like “when does a peer system guarentee closure”, “are there effecient search techniques for peer systems”, “how can RFID servers be deployed by folks in overalls”, “can systems be built needing no administration”.

When I retired nearly 2 years ago, I had decided to move to Santa Fe and continue on with complexity related things. I’ve a great set of friends here, in the FRIAM community and the RedFish group. Here’s a story about the first comple of months.

I’ve had a web site for quite a while, but naturally very HTML 1.0-ish. A research buddy prodded me to upgrade .. and I was delighted to find out that wonders have happened! Brilliant designers took the mess the civilians had made out of our internet and put it back together in a wonderous way.

XHTML and CSS. Php and MySQL. Java and XML. Apache. And a couple of truly tasteful souls put together site management software to make it much, much easier for me to build flexible sites. The two I’m most interested in currently are WordPress and Textpattern, the latter I use for this site.
